Charles Clifton Sevier (1915-1941)

Born September 19, 1915, died Sunday morning December 7, 1941, Charles Clifton Sevier, U.S. Navy, Seaman First Class from California was killed in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, while serving aboard the battleship Arizona. He was 26 years old at the time of his death. He was married to Bon Jean Cunningham of Leachville, Arkansas.

On a vacation trip to Hawaii in 2000, my wife and I visited the USS Arizona Memorial. After quietly uttering prayers of thanks and for peace, I was surprised to find this cousin's name. You can see his name engraved on the white marble memorial wall of the USS Arizona Memorial, C.C. Sevier USN S1c. My visit to the memorial was made even more poignant by this cousin who died 60 years earlier and lies entombed there.

Charles’ father was the John Sevier of Triplett, Missouri mentioned on page 311 of Sevier Family History.
