The Inspiration for JohnSevier.com

By Lance Sevier

My interest in our family history began in the spring of 1986 when I received an assignment in a college cultural geography class. Each student was to interview their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, if possible, and trace the migration of their ancestors that had brought them to that time and place of attendance at San Diego State University. Most of us students were San Diego residents and our families had arrived within the last three generations. None of us had ever thought to ask how or why.

I talked to my father first. He answered my questions about his life and his parents then pulled the book, Sevier Family History, from the shelf and introduced me to our greater family history. With my interest sparked by that assignment, I became a history buff. I began to read history books, watch documentaries and enter into discussions of history and politics when I had never done so before.

Now, I edit and publish this web site as a resource and source of inspiration for my nieces and nephews as well as others who share an interest in our family history.
