This formal salutation and distinctive official signature with inverted e's, sweeping curls and a bold decorative underline, closes a letter to Senators Joseph Anderson and Daniel Smith, November 12, 1807. John Sevier was a prolific letter writer and wrote faithfully in his diary. His diary and many more Sevier family papers are preserved as part of the McClung Historical Collection of the Knoxville County Public Library System, Knoxville, TN.
The letters presented here are arranged chronologically. The letters are transcribed to make them more easily readable. The images are from the George Washington Papers and Thomas Jefferson Papers collections of the Library of Congress (LOC).
