Sevier Family Reunion 2007

Thursday July 19 through Sunday July 22, 2007

This year's reunion was a great success! Based in historic Jonesborough, Tennessee, we took trips to Marble Springs, Sycamore Shoals, Sevier Family Gravesites and Home Sites, and enjoyed the award winning presentation of "The Wataugans" The official outdoor drama of Tennessee.

We enjoyed several meals together, including Tennessee style barbecue, and had great times getting to know one another.

There was also a very entertaining special guest speaker, Lieutenant General Fred McCorkle, United States Marine Corps (Ret.), Former Deputy Commandant for Aviation, Headquarters. Fred McCorkle is a Sevier Cousin, descended from Robert Sevier. Click here to view his official biography.

We'll be posting pictures of the 2007 reunion and news of the next reunion soon.

Sevier Family History

Published in 1961, Sevier Family History: with the Letters of Gen. John Sevier is the seminal work on the Sevier family in America. The late Cora Bales Sevier and Nancy Sevier Madden compiled the exhaustive research and wrote this 551-page volume.

Sevier Family History is a wonderful resource for history buffs like me. It mentions facts and sometimes anecdotes about the first seven generations of my own genealogy right down to my great-grandfather, William Madison Sevier. The bibliography and index are immensely helpful in finding early-day historical references. I bought a green cloth-bound, first edition (there was only one edition) from a bookstore in Memphis for a lot more than the $15.00 for which it originally sold. Although out of print, copies were available from Ms. Madden until recently. She has no more and there are still family members requesting copies.

Cousin Tom Windle, editor of Sevier Family Association newsletter, Sevier Family News is hoping to respond to this demand. He has a list of people wanting to buy. If you or someone you know has a copy they are willing to sell please email Tom Windle.
